Being caught up with the cuteness of the animal population, I have painted animals on  gallery wrapped canvas 1.5"thick and on archival watercolor paper.  The sizes I choose are easy to mat and frame in standard size frames.    As you look at these precious animals notice each has their own personality!  Luscious eye lashes, a smirk, dimples - you never know.
